Samsung this week warned investors that it expects to see a sharp 60% decline in profits for the third quarter of 2014, citing strong competition in the smartphone market as a contributing factor. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday granted Apple with a patent for a mobile electronic device, such as an iPhone or iPad, with an adaptively responsive flexible display that could retrieve information from a server over a wireless network or complete other data requests based on flexing the display or other gestures. While the original iPhone was marketed as running OS X, the operating system was later renamed to iPhone OS. As such, there continues to have been no iOS device capable of running the full-blown version of OS X found on the Mac. That could soon change, however, as a new report from Taiwan-based DigiTimes claims that the oft-rumored 12.9-inch “iPad Pro” could have an integrated iOS and OS X operating system. The latest App Store distribution numbers reveal that 47% of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices are running iOS 8 or later. That figure is measured based on devices that accessed the App Store during a roughly two-week period ending October 5th, and is just a one percent rise over the 46% adoption rate reported back in late September. AT&T on Monday issued a warning to consumers about an insider that illegally accessed the personal information of an unspecified amount of users. In a letter to the Vermont attorney general, the U.S. carrier apologized for the incident and assured that the employee no longer works for AT&T.
